If you have Photoshop CC, run your update because there are some new features including this one, the ability to not just embed an image in another file, but now you can LINK a photo into another file. This is great for album designing or especially commercial work where you are doing layouts and need to change out a logo in a number of places. Check out this video on Linking and Embedding.
